Getting desktop icons back in windows 8 or 8.1 it’s a bit different than windows XP and windows vista.

  1. sometimes it just happens because of slow boot or it may take longer to appear please restart the computer
  2.  just take your cursor to the middle of the screen and right click on it you see view as the top option go to view and go down in view and try to see the option saying show desktop icon just check the option .
  3. now that small windows will disappear and this should fix your issue
  4. you can also try the same thing in windows 10 also.
  5. and if nothing works try restoring the computer to the back date follow

    1. Right click the desktop

    2. Select View -> Show Desktop Icon

    3. Make sure the option is checked.
